Volunteer

Become a valued volunteer

Volunteers receive a Volunteer T-shirt. Volunteers who work 2 or more 4 hour shifts during the weekend receive a FREE 1/2 crab dinner.

Volunteering at CrabFest offers a unique opportunity to engage with a diverse crowd who gather from around the globe to celebrate the renowned Dungeness Crab, a local specialty. This festival, the largest of its kind in the country, famously sells over 8 tons of Dungeness Crab each year. As a volunteer, you’ll not only get to share your love for the Olympic Peninsula and its traditions, but also contribute to the success of this exciting event.

As part of your involvement, you will be provided with a distinctive Crab Crew t-shirt. Those committing to at least two shifts of four hours each will also receive a voucher for a half crab dinner as a token of appreciation, along with the community’s gratitude.

Volunteer Roles Include:

  • Table Assistants: Interact with visitors while assisting them at their tables with additional napkins, cutlery, and condiments. Responsibilities also include clearing tables, emptying shell buckets, and maintaining the cleanliness of dining tools and areas.
  • Greeters: Welcome guests, distribute programs, provide festival information, and manage entry points to ensure a smooth flow.
  • Information/Merchandise Booth: Manage the booth by providing information and selling festival merchandise. Includes handling cash and credit card transactions.
  • Line Control: Engage with guests in line, ensuring orderly access to crab meals and that pathways remain clear.
  • Crab Serving Booth: Assist in meal preparation and service at the crab booth. Basic food handling knowledge is needed, but a food handler’s permit is not required.
  • Crabs To Go on the Pier: Help in wrapping crabs for takeout and assist the crab cooks.
  • Production Tasks: Involves setting up and breaking down the event space, which may require lifting tables, chairs, tents, and signage.
  • Serving Wine/Beer: Volunteers may also serve alcoholic beverages under supervision.

Coordinator Positions: Opportunities are available for those interested in overseeing merchandise, volunteer coordination, or vendor operations. If interested, you should email Rose.

Volunteer Training: All volunteers are encouraged to attend a training session to learn about new updates, how to handle transactions, and other necessary details. This session will also cover any changes to the festival’s program.

Volunteers are the backbone of CrabFest, ensuring all attendees have a memorable experience. If you have any questions or wish to volunteer, you can reach out via email at info@crabfestival.org.
